Artistic view of a Male Pteronarcys californica (Pteronarcyidae) (Giant Salmonfly) Stonefly Adult from the Gallatin River in Montana
Salmonflies
Pteronarcys californica

The giant Salmonflies of the Western mountains are legendary for their proclivity to elicit consistent dry-fly action and ferocious strikes.

27" brown trout, my largest ever. It was the sub-dominant fish in its pool. After this, I hooked the bigger one, but I couldn't land it.
Troutnut is a project started in 2003 by salmonid ecologist Jason "Troutnut" Neuswanger to help anglers and fly tyers unabashedly embrace the entomological side of the sport. Learn more about Troutnut or support the project for an enhanced experience here.

When asked what I just caught that monster on I showed him. He put on his magnifiers and said, "I can't believe they can see that."

You were, but I interceded with Jason and he agreed to finally give you access again. But no more hijinks from you and Jack!

Thank you Louis, I’m going to have a little sit-down with Jack tonight and we’re going to pour over our past transgressions. However, I don’t think Jack will take too kindly to being told to put a lid on it.

And Spence was banned for being a tattle-tale. Don't know what I was banned for. I've been resisting the temptation to write haiku out of season.

You know it seems like evrytime the site goes down, it's right after I post something or am in the midst of posting something, I am always sure that I broke it somehow...

Only those trying to come in by way of servers in Arizona. Jason's doing his duty as an American, building an electronic fence.
