Hex Mayflies
Hexagenia limbata

The famous nocturnal Hex hatch of the Midwest (and a few other lucky locations) stirs to the surface mythically large brown trout that only touch streamers for the rest of the year.

27" brown trout, my largest ever. It was the sub-dominant fish in its pool. After this, I hooked the bigger one, but I couldn't land it.
Troutnut is a project started in 2003 by salmonid ecologist Jason "Troutnut" Neuswanger to help anglers and fly tyers unabashedly embrace the entomological side of the sport. Learn more about Troutnut or support the project for an enhanced experience here.

Wondering if anybody would know of a fly shop that sells spun fur or wool in the color Buff ? the shop where I use to buy it is out of business and I'm out of stock. I tried google but didn't find any help on there. Ed

Flytyerinpa,

Here is a source;

http://www.jsflyfishing.com

Page 51 of the 2018 catalog has Sculpin Wool in tan for $3.35 and Rams Wool in tan for $2.75. Page 52 of the print catalog has tons of natural and synthetic furs and dubbing. They sell a Japanese hook that is many dollars less than Tiemco hooks. I like to save money when ever possible to use for other fishing stuff.
