Hexagenia limbata
The famous nocturnal Hex hatch of the Midwest (and a few other lucky locations) stirs to the surface mythically large brown trout that only touch streamers for the rest of the year.

This specimen keys pretty easily to Onocosmoecus, and it closely resembles a specimen from Alaska which caddis expert Dave Ruiter recognized as this genus. As with that specimen, the only species in the genus documented in this area is Onocosmoecus unicolor, but Dave suggested for that specimen that there might be multiple not-yet-distinguished species under the unicolor umbrella and it would be best to stick with the genus-level ID. I'm doing the same for this one.

Hi,
Your valued help please, l only boat fish on large still waters. I'm looking at a Rio floating line and would like some advise which should l choose Rio Gold or Rio Grand and why.

I can't help you as I've never fished any kind of still waters but there may be some other guys on board that can help you. I guess we should ask though what weight rod are you planning to use and what size range flies?

Rio Grand is for fast action rods; it is heavier than the Gold line, and has more mass near the front of the taper. If you have a fast rod you might like Grand, otherwise Gold is a good all around line.

I think it might be more fair to say that Rio Grand is for people who have fast action rods and don't want them to feel like fast action rods. :)
I really like the the Rio Perception. The Gold has a much longer head than the Grand and Perception. The Perception really nice line for fishing from a boat--strip in to the color change, pick up, and shoot with one backcast. It's heavier than the Gold in the first 30 feet, but actually quite a bit lighter after that.
Picking lines is tough. It really helps to cast different lines on your chosen rod, but there aren't many opportunities for that.
