Tiny Baetis mayflies are perhaps the most commonly encountered and imitated by anglers on all American trout streams due to their great abundance, widespread distribution, and trout-friendly emergence habits.
This Skwala nymph still has a couple months left to go before hatching, but it's still a good representative of its species, which was extremely abundant in my sample for a stonefly of this size. It's obvious why the Yakima is known for its Skwala hatch.

hey all,
so i am almost certain this is a stonefly. but i was wondering if it would be considered a 'tiny' one. i have seen what i though were tiny black stone flies that are only a qatar of the size of this one thanks for any info. the picture was taken in Monroe County, PA around 1230.

Sorry Mahones, don't know how this one slipped by without trying to help. This looks like a species of the Taeniopterygidae (Willowfly) family. They are tiny stonefies arent they? They can get much smaller though, even half that size!
