Hex Mayflies
Hexagenia limbata

The famous nocturnal Hex hatch of the Midwest (and a few other lucky locations) stirs to the surface mythically large brown trout that only touch streamers for the rest of the year.

This specimen keys pretty easily to Onocosmoecus, and it closely resembles a specimen from Alaska which caddis expert Dave Ruiter recognized as this genus. As with that specimen, the only species in the genus documented in this area is Onocosmoecus unicolor, but Dave suggested for that specimen that there might be multiple not-yet-distinguished species under the unicolor umbrella and it would be best to stick with the genus-level ID. I'm doing the same for this one.
27" brown trout, my largest ever. It was the sub-dominant fish in its pool. After this, I hooked the bigger one, but I couldn't land it.

I recently bought a Canon SLDR and two zoom lenses. I'm going to be making a lot trout river/fishing photos. Naturally, I'm afraid of dropping the outfit in the water. Any suggestions for waterproof bags for cameras? And what might be a good macro lens for a Canon EOS at a low price? Thanks.

As for as water proofing, I keep my camera around my neck and I don't go wading with my Canon XTi.
