The famous nocturnal Hex hatch of the Midwest (and a few other lucky locations) stirs to the surface mythically large brown trout that only touch streamers for the rest of the year.

I caught several wild and colorful 8-9 inch brook trout in the clear little pool below this waterfall.

This species was fairly abundant in a February sample of the upper Yakima.

27" brown trout, my largest ever. It was the sub-dominant fish in its pool. After this, I hooked the bigger one, but I couldn't land it.

Best brook trout of the day at around 8-9 inches

My reel seat came off so I had to tie it back with some spare paracord while drinking a beer. It did the trick!

Last Friday on an elkhair caddis, this guy was up in shallow water where I later spooked up three suckers - was he following them picking up their leftovers?

Another one from shallow, slack water...? #12 Royal Wulff this time
