Hex Mayflies
Hexagenia limbata

The famous nocturnal Hex hatch of the Midwest (and a few other lucky locations) stirs to the surface mythically large brown trout that only touch streamers for the rest of the year.

27" brown trout, my largest ever. It was the sub-dominant fish in its pool. After this, I hooked the bigger one, but I couldn't land it.

Sorry for the very late welcome, I don't chime in very often, so I miss a thing or two.

Hello Jimcar,

If I didn't already welcome you I guess I missed your initial post. I check in almost every day. Glad you like the site and the contents. You can thank the web site owner, Jason Nueswanger, for much of the insect content and the gorgeous photos.
