Blue-winged Olives
Baetis

Tiny Baetis mayflies are perhaps the most commonly encountered and imitated by anglers on all American trout streams due to their great abundance, widespread distribution, and trout-friendly emergence habits.

This specimen resembled several others of around the same size and perhaps the same species, which were pretty common in my February sample from the upper Yakima. Unfortunately, I misplaced the specimen before I could get it under a microscope for a definitive ID.
27" brown trout, my largest ever. It was the sub-dominant fish in its pool. After this, I hooked the bigger one, but I couldn't land it.

Congratulations Jason. I hope the waders that I just bought for my wife are enjoyed as much as Lena seems to enjoy hers. My wife said "yes" on a bluff overlooking the St. Croix River and it's fun to look back on that day and remember the scene as well as the emotions. I hope everything is as picturesque going forward for you.

Here, here, Jason! I wish you much health, happiness, and if it pleases you, a pod of little troutnuts.

I'm a bit late to this party, but allow me to add my very best wishes. I've had the pleasure of meeting Lena and the further pleasure of teaching the future Mrs. Troutnut (and Mr. Troutnut) to ski. Good catch, Jason! As Spence suggests, a keeper--for sure.

Thanks Paul, but this thread is a little bit out of date... Mrs. Troutnut and I have been happily married for 15 months now. :)

Not really... it's Dr. Mrs. Troutnut. And she's going to keep rubbing it in until I finish my Ph.D. and then some!

That is funny Jason!

I have a surrogate-son in Germany. He was an exchange student that lived with us during the 91/92 school year. He ended up, like his real father, becoming a doctor and worked in a hospital in Berlin. He met a girl there, fell in love, and decided to get married. We went to the wedding in 2006.

His wife is a pediatric surgeon...They now have three daughters...The oldest is 3 or 4 and a set of younger twins...I tease her about all the education we have crammed in to her brain and now she spends her days playing with the little girls...

Actually Germany pays a large portion of her old wage for some period of time and she's become a pharma rep so she can hang close to home, for the time being.

Jason...I'm not hinting at anything here...Really! ;)
