Blue-winged Olives
Baetis

Tiny Baetis mayflies are perhaps the most commonly encountered and imitated by anglers on all American trout streams due to their great abundance, widespread distribution, and trout-friendly emergence habits.

With a bit of help from the microscope, this specimen keys clearly and unsurprisingly to Hydropsyche.
27" brown trout, my largest ever. It was the sub-dominant fish in its pool. After this, I hooked the bigger one, but I couldn't land it.
Troutnut is a project started in 2003 by salmonid ecologist Jason "Troutnut" Neuswanger to help anglers and fly tyers unabashedly embrace the entomological side of the sport. Learn more about Troutnut or support the project for an enhanced experience here.

Tim,

If you happen to see this log on...I've sent you a private message and you can only see it if you are logged on. I see that you have only logged on once way back in July of 2008, but maybe you will see this by chance and get to read my message.

For those of you that might see this message Tim Neal is one of the better fly tiers in Michigan and has tied for decades...He ties and carries the flame for the old Au Sable flies...Traditional flies famous around the river...The Harris Special, Robert's Yellow Drake, Borchers, the Madsen Skunk, and the old Barber Pole, etc...One day we will get Tim and his buddy JR, also of Grayling, to publish a book with these famous patterns and their histories.
