The famous nocturnal Hex hatch of the Midwest (and a few other lucky locations) stirs to the surface mythically large brown trout that only touch streamers for the rest of the year.
The only key I'm aware of which sorta/kinda covers western Ameletus nymphs is Zloty and Pritchard's key to Alberta nymphs (1999) and it doesn't cover a number of the species listed by Meyer and McCafferty.
Good luck with these specimens. ;) But they sure are beautiful critters. Like you Mark, I have to wonder how Meeyer and McCafferty keyed those specimens out. I have run into the same issues here in PA with Ameletus sp. nymphs. And the ephemerellids...
But they sure are beautiful critters.

Hey Eric - Didn't we look at a few of yours that left us puzzled a few years ago?
Eric - That is a little beauty. Was it in a tank or were the photos taken underwater?
