Hex Mayflies
Hexagenia limbata

The famous nocturnal Hex hatch of the Midwest (and a few other lucky locations) stirs to the surface mythically large brown trout that only touch streamers for the rest of the year.

This dun emerged from a mature nymph on my desk. Unfortunately its wings didn't perfectly dry out.
27" brown trout, my largest ever. It was the sub-dominant fish in its pool. After this, I hooked the bigger one, but I couldn't land it.

I was supposed to be on this trip but unfortunately couldn't make it. Darn!

A friend of mine is fishing the "Alley" the last few days and he sent me these to rub in the fact that he's having a blast, catching fish, and I'm here driving my nephew around looking at colleges for next year...Darn again!

Nice brown. Was he planning on keeping it since his left hand is jammed under the gill cover. The last picture of the colored up fish is really gorgeous. That fish had been in the river a couple of weeks. That red cheek is awesome.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Very poor fish handling. It may survive release, but...
