Salmonflies
Pteronarcys californica

The giant Salmonflies of the Western mountains are legendary for their proclivity to elicit consistent dry-fly action and ferocious strikes.

27" brown trout, my largest ever. It was the sub-dominant fish in its pool. After this, I hooked the bigger one, but I couldn't land it.
Troutnut is a project started in 2003 by salmonid ecologist Jason "Troutnut" Neuswanger to help anglers and fly tyers unabashedly embrace the entomological side of the sport. Learn more about Troutnut or support the project for an enhanced experience here.

It looks like a No See Um to me, but I will leave the more detailed taxonomy to those better qualified. Don’t tell me this has everyone stumped; Taxon, Gonzo, anybody?

When asked what I just caught that monster on I showed him. He put on his magnifiers and said, "I can't believe they can see that."

Hi Alan-

Actually, seeing that this was Amie's first post, I have simply been waiting for a clue as to whether this was someone simply having fun, or someone having trouble uploading or posting the proper syntax for displaying a photo on the site. However, if I were to hazard a guess at this point, it would lean toward the former.
Best regards,

Maybe I was a little premature in my warped sense of humor and owe Amie an apology. Amie I hope this helps. Just click on the link below.
