The giant Salmonflies of the Western mountains are legendary for their proclivity to elicit consistent dry-fly action and ferocious strikes.

27" brown trout, my largest ever. It was the sub-dominant fish in its pool. After this, I hooked the bigger one, but I couldn't land it.

Female Ironodes nitidus (Slate Maroon Drake) Mayfly Spinner Pictures

While relatively rare in most of western Montana, it is common in several small streams along the east side of Flathead Lake and streams on the south side of the Flathead Indian Reservation.

This mayfly was collected from Yellow Bay Creek in Montana on June 25th, 2008 and added to Troutnut.com by Bnewell on June 28th, 2011.
