Hexagenia limbata

The famous nocturnal Hex hatch of the Midwest (and a few other lucky locations) stirs to the surface mythically large brown trout that only touch streamers for the rest of the year.

Rhithrogena hageni (Western Black Quill) Mayfly Nymph Pictures

This mature nymph was collected in the same riffle as a male spinner, from which I got the identification for both.

This mayfly was collected from the South Fork Snoqualmie River in Washington on May 14th, 2022 and added to Troutnut.com by Troutnut on May 16th, 2022.
