Salmonflies
Pteronarcys californica

The giant Salmonflies of the Western mountains are legendary for their proclivity to elicit consistent dry-fly action and ferocious strikes.

27" brown trout, my largest ever. It was the sub-dominant fish in its pool. After this, I hooked the bigger one, but I couldn't land it.

I am not 100% sure, but I think it is a Chloroperlid. If not, it is a Perlodid (I don't think it is though). Do you have pictures of outstretched wings? Do you know the size?

It's been a long time, but I think this one was pretty small. You're probably right about Chloroperlidae.

Looks like Perlodidae to me. In the ventral view, notice the metathoracic sternacostal sutures that extend laterally from the anterior end of furcal pits.

Thanks Motacilla. I've moved it to Perlodidae.
