Tiny Baetis mayflies are perhaps the most commonly encountered and imitated by anglers on all American trout streams due to their great abundance, widespread distribution, and trout-friendly emergence habits.

27" brown trout, my largest ever. It was the sub-dominant fish in its pool. After this, I hooked the bigger one, but I couldn't land it.

Cinygmula subaequalis (Small Gordon Quill) Mayfly Nymph Pictures

This nymph is missing a few gills, but is otherwise in good shape. It was the only one of its species which turned up in my sample.

Here you can see the mouthparts protruding out the side in a top view of the head.  That's the identifying characteristic for Cinygmula.
