Hex Mayflies
Hexagenia limbata

The famous nocturnal Hex hatch of the Midwest (and a few other lucky locations) stirs to the surface mythically large brown trout that only touch streamers for the rest of the year.

27" brown trout, my largest ever. It was the sub-dominant fish in its pool. After this, I hooked the bigger one, but I couldn't land it.

Biography & Thoughts
I am trying to reach Shawnny3, in Pleasant Gap, Pa., to ask him if there is still a fish hatchery there. I was a Fish Comm. biologist in 1952, working out of that hatchery. The hatchery director at the time was a man named Jerry Zettle. He had a beautiful unmarried daughter, and, alas, I was just recently married! Alan Mark Fletcher, Ithaca, N. Y.
