Blue-winged Olives
Baetis

Tiny Baetis mayflies are perhaps the most commonly encountered and imitated by anglers on all American trout streams due to their great abundance, widespread distribution, and trout-friendly emergence habits.

27" brown trout, my largest ever. It was the sub-dominant fish in its pool. After this, I hooked the bigger one, but I couldn't land it.

This road was easy cruising to the river when it was dry. An unexpected thunderstorm made getting back a major challenge. Great tires and 4WD only go so far when the tires are completely caked in slick wet clay. Fortunately there were no really steep hills or dangerous drops off the side of the road.

It's amazing what a thunderstorm and a reach of clay badlands can do to the clarity of a normally crystal-clear trout stream.
